Nanjing Forestry University is located at the foot of the Purple Mountain and east of the Xuanwu Lake. It is a provincial key university It is a comprehensive university co-administered by Jiangsu Provincial Government and the Ministry of Education of China. In 2017, NFU has been listed as a Double First Class University by China’s First Class University and Discipline Initiative. NFU was evolved from Nanjing Forestry College founded in 1952 which merged from the Forest Departments of Central University (founded in 1902) and of Jinling University (founded in 1910), and integrated with the forest departments of Wuhan University, Nanchang University and Hubei Agricultural College in 1955. NFU was also named Nanjing Technological College of Forest Products in 1972. Again in 1983 NFU resumed its name as Nanjing Forestry College. 1985 witnessed the founding of Nanjing Forestry University.

 In 2002, the NFU Alumni Association was established on the centennial anniversary celebration of the university. In October 2007, the Alumni Office was established, and in March 2008, the office began its work, which marked that the work of alumni had entered a new age. The establishment of the Alumni Association has brought together alumni from several historical stages of Nanjing Forestry University, allowing alumni from all over the world to join hands together. At present, NFU has more than 200000 alumni. 56 alumni organizations have been set up, including 53 domestic and 3 abroad in Canada, Australia and Vietnam.

At present, in accordance with China’s "two centenary goals", NFU are striving to compose a new chapter in the construction of "two first-class" and high-level universities in NFU. Alumni Association will further strengthen contacts with alumni from all over the world, enhance friendship, promote exchanges between the university and alumni, alumni and alumni, support alumni to achieve their own career, and contribute to the prosperity and development of both NFU and China.
