I.About

    College of Forestry, Nanjing Forestry University traces its history back to the Department of Forestry of Central University and the Department of Forestry of Jinling University. It is a traditional college with a long history in NFU, and one of the backbone colleges for the development of "large forestry, large environment and large ecology". Over the past years, adhering to the tradition, reformation and innovation, pioneering and advancing with the times, the college has made remarkable achievements in talent training, scientific research and community services. 

    The college has made outstanding contributions to China's forestry construction and social and economic development, and won the honorary title of "National outstanding collectivity of education system" by the Ministry of Education in 2007.

The college consists of five departments: Forest Genetic and Tree Breeding, Silviculture, Forest Protection, Forest Management, and Soil and Water Conservation. The college has 113 faculty members, including 43 professors and 24 associate professors. Among the faculty of the college, there are 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 distinguished professor of Yangtze River Scholars and a winner of the national fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 3 National "Millions of talents", 4 person listed in the first class of "333" project in Jiangsu Province, 2 person listed in the second class of the "333" project, 2 person listed in the young and middle-aged leading talents of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 2 person listed in the "New Century Excellent Talents" of the Ministry of Education, and 5 person received the special government allowance of the State Council. At present, there are more than 1000 undergraduates and more than 500 graduate students.

    The achievements completed by the faculty won 2 first prizes, 10 second prizes and 103 provincial and ministerial awards of the national science and technology awards. The faculty members have published more than 100 monographs and textbooks and 21 self-made course handouts. A total of nearly ten thousand graduates, including undergraduates, masters and PhDs, have been graduated. A number of famous forest experts at home and abroad have emerged, such as academicians, national thousand talents program, Changjiang Scholars, winners of distinguished young scholars fund, etc. In addition, the college actively carried out academic exchanges with foreign countries, and established talent training and scientific and technological cooperation relations with universities or research institutions in more than ten countries, such as the United States, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia and Sweden.

II.Degree Programs

    The college has 6 undergraduate programs, including forestry, forest protection, geographic information science, biotechnology, horticulture, soil and water conservation and desertification control, among which forestry is a Top-notch program in Jiangsu Province. There are 10 doctoral programs, 15 master programs and 2 professional master degree programs, including forest genetics and breeding, forest breeding, forest conservation, forest management, soil and water conservation and desertification control, genetics, microbiology, etc. It has 2 national key disciplines, 3 national forestry administration key disciplines, 4 provincial and ministerial key laboratories and 1 "National Forestry Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center". The college is also the main college to build Jiangsu "Collaborative Innovation Center of Sustainable Forestry in Southern China". The forestry discipline is the construction point of "Jiangsu Province's dominant discipline". In recent years, the discipline of forestry has received more than 100 million yuan of discipline construction funds.

III. Affiliated Research Institutions

    The college has 4 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, 1 Collaborative Innovation Center of Sustainable Forestry in Southern China of Jiangsu Province, and the Forestry Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center was awarded the national experimental teaching demonstration center in 2007.The 4 provincial and ministerial key laboratories are Key Open Laboratory of forest genetics and genetic engineering from State Forestry and grass administration;Key Laboratory of forest genetics and biotechnology jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Province; Key Laboratory of poplar germplasm innovation and variety improvement in Jiangsu Province;Jiangsu Key Laboratory of forest genetics and genetic engineering.

IV. International Exchange and Collaboration

    The college actively carries out academic exchanges with foreign countries. More than 100 people have been sent to study abroad, more than 50 well-known scholars have been employed as part-time professors, and more than 300 foreign experts and scholars have been invited to give lectures and developed collaborations. The college has established talent training and research cooperation with more than a dozen universities or research institutions from the United States, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and Sweden etc. For a long time, we have carried out international exchange programs from Outstanding Undergraduates of the National Overseas Study fund, government scholarship programs for overseas study of undergraduate students in Jiangsu Province, the "3 + 1 + 1" programs with the University of New Brunswick, exchange and study programs with University of British Columbia, etc., as well as short-term credit exchange, summer camp, etc.
