Introduction to WANG Mingxiu
WANG Mingxiu (1932- ), a forest geneticist born in Zhijiang, Hubei Province of China. He received an Associate Doctoral Degree from Moscow Forest Engineering Institute of the former Soviet Union in 1996. He is a Professor and the former President of Nanjing Forestry University. Professor Wang was elected an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994. He leads the project to collect, preserve, evaluate, and utilize the poplar resources. Professor Wang breeds and popularizes elite poplar cultivars in areas along the middle and lower reaches of Yangzi river, and in the alluvial plains of Hang and Hai rivers. He also developed cultivation methods for managing large-scale industrial plantations. Professor Wang won many national awards, including the First National Prize for Science and Technology Development and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Award. His current research interest focuses on evaluating poplar germplasm and breeding elite poplar cultivars through traditional and molecular breeding approaches.
