Prof. Dato Dr Tan Yew Chong of Malaysia was Appointed an Honorary Professor of NJFU

On December 23, the appointing ceremony for Prof. Dato’ Dr Tan Yew Chong of Malaysia was held in NJFU. President Yong Qiang and Vice President Li Weilin attended the ceremony.  

On behalf of NJFU, President Yong Qiang extended a warm welcome to Dato’ Dr Tan Yew Chong and his delegation. He said Dato’ Dr Tan Yew Chong had been giving strong support to NJFU’s cooperation and exchange programs with the National University of Malaysia and the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB). By the active recommendation of Dato’ Dr Tan Yew Chong, NJFU had achieved considerable progress in cooperation with the National University of Malaysia, and had drafted a MOU on scientific and technological cooperation with MTIB. He emphasized that the friendship between China and Malaysia had a long history and the cooperation between the two sides was not only based on complementary advantages at the technical level, but also on a high degree of compatibility in development goals. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, he hoped to take the appointment of Dato’ Dr Tan Yew Chong as honorary Professor of NJFU as an opportunity to further promote the exchanges and cooperation between our university and Malaysian educational and scientific research institutions and inject new vitality into the educational, scientific and cultural exchanges between China and Malaysia.

In his speech, Dato’ Dr Tan Yew Chong said he was honored to be appointed Honorary Professor of NJFU. He believed the new status was not only an honor, but also represents a responsibility. He briefly reviewed the cooperation between China and Malaysia in the past ten years, which had expanded from trade and education to culture, science and technology and other fields. He said that China was not only an important engine of global economic growth, but also an important partner of Malaysia. In the future, he would more actively participate in the construction of China-Malaysia friendship Bridge, promote the implementation of innovative cooperation between Nanjing Forestry University and Malaysia in various fields, and contribute to the stable development of China-Malaysia relations.
