A delegation from the University of Birmingham Visited NJFU
On April 16th, Professor William Bloss, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham and the head of the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences at Birmingham, led a delegation to visit NJFU. Vice President Yin Tongming attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Yin Tongming welcomed the delegation and briefly introduced NJFU. He said that Nanjing Forestry University, as a high-level research-oriented university with distinct forestry characteristics, had always adhered to the internationalized educational philosophy of openness, inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit; the university actively seek to establish closer ties and cooperation with friends from all over the world, promotes the cooperation and exchange between teachers and students, and facilitates international scientific research cooperation and joint educational training. He said that the two sides had a foundation of cooperation in the past and hoped that this exchange would serve as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results in areas such as scientific research, teacher exchanges, and joint student training.
William Bloss expressed gratitude for the warm reception and gave a detailed introduction to the University of Birmingham and the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences. He stated that the University of Birmingham attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation and exchanges with Chinese universities. He hoped that through this visit, they could further deepen their understanding of Nanjing Forestry University, enhance mutual friendship, strengthen more extensive cooperation and exchanges in areas such as climate change and forest environment and promote in-depth cooperation between the two sides in jointly applying for research projects, jointly building laboratories, and jointly cultivating students.
At the meeting, Vivian Zheng Yingyi, the director of the China Office of the University of Birmingham, introduced the progress of the signing of the Memorandum of understanding between the two universities. The director of the International Cooperation Office of NJFU introduced the international cooperation and exchanges of the university. The heads of the College of Forestry and Grassland, the College of Soil and Water Conservation, and the College of Ecology and Environment respectively introduced the disciplinary characteristics, teaching and research, and international cooperation of their respective colleges. Experts from the Bamboo Research Institute introduced the progress of the scientific research cooperation with the University of Birmingham. The two sides also had in-depth discussions and reached a consensus on the scientific research cooperation mechanism, joint application for international scientific research projects, and the joint student training model.
