The Vice-Chancellor of the University of New Brunswick Visited NJFU

On April 28th, Prof. John Kershaw, the Vice-chancellor of the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in Canada, visited NJFU. Vice President Zhang Xiaoqin attended the meeting.

Vice President Zhang extended a warm welcome to Prof. John Kershaw. In her speech, she pointed out that since the first student exchange agreement in 2015, the two universities had established a three-in-one strategic cooperation system of "integrated undergraduate and postgraduate education - collaborative innovation in scientific research - two-way flow of talents". Through the joint training program, over 50 students from Nanjing Forestry University who have pursued further studies at UNB have all obtained international authoritative academic certifications and have become international talents active in the fields of forestry, engineering and environmental protection worldwide. She emphasized that NJFU had always adhered to an internationalization development strategy, and the achievements in discipline construction were remarkable. Currently, 10 disciplines of NJFU have entered the top 1% globally in ESI, among which the disciplines of chemistry and engineering have even entered the top 1‰ globally. NJFU will continue to deepen its internationalization development strategy, jointly build a high-level international teaching and research platform, and promote the sharing of academic resources.

John Kershaw highly praised the educational achievements and pragmatic spirit of NJFU. He said that the academic quality and innovative ability demonstrated by the students of Nanjing Forestry University at UNB were impressive. The two universities share many similarities in terms of educational characteristics and discipline development. Both sides have a solid foundation for previous cooperation and he looked forward to further deepening exchanges and cooperation with NJFU to jointly create a new future for international education.

At the meeting, the two sides had in-depth discussions on launching the "China-Canada Forestry Innovation Workshop", promoting the implementation of the dual master's degree program, and exploring UNB students studying at Nanjing Forestry University.

After the meeting, John Kershaw introduced the joint master's training programs to the undergraduate students of the College of Forestry and Grassland, the College of Soil and Water Conservation, the College of Materials Science and Engineering, and the College of Ecology and Environment.
