Chinese and Foreign Students from NJFU Adopted Metasequoia in Nanjing Zhongshan Botanical Garden

As one of the activities of NJFU 4th Ecological Culture Festival, on May 22, more than 30 Chinese and foreign students from the College of International Education NJFU have adopted a 60-odd years of age metasequoia tree in Nanjing Zhongshan Botanical Garden. The adoption will be one year. During this period, students can enter the garden at any time to take care of the growth of the trees with the "Adoption Pass Card" issued by Zhongshan Botanical Garden. The students will also undertake the work of weed removal, garbage cleaning, and pest management in the garden.

Metasequoia, a relict plant, was first discovered by the older generation of Chinese forest scientists represented by the then president of NJFU, Prof. Zheng Wanjun. It has taken eight war-torn years to complete the identification and naming of the plant. This ancient fossil tree species has shown strong vitality and adaptability. Now it is not only widely cultivated in China, but also settled in more than 50 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the United States. Metasequoia as a friendly messenger has spread the friendship of Chinese people to all over the world.
