Introduction to the College of Continuing Education and Applied Technology
Nanjing Forestry University is located at the foot of the beautiful Purple Mountain and by the rippling Xuanwu Lake. It is a multidisciplinary university with a century long history of education, featuring forestry as its characteristic, resources, ecology, and environment as its advantages, and coordinated development of disciplines such as science, engineering, agriculture, literature, management, economics, philosophy, law, and art. It is jointly built by the central and local governments. The school currently has 21 colleges (departments), 7 postdoctoral mobile stations, 7 doctoral degree authorization first level discipline points, 26 master's degree authorization first level discipline points, and 19 master's professional degree authorization categories. The forestry engineering discipline has been selected as a national "Double First Class" construction discipline. There are 2 national key disciplines at the first level and 4 national key disciplines at the second level. There is one national key discipline cultivation point for first level disciplines in Jiangsu Province, eight advantageous disciplines in Jiangsu universities, 13 key disciplines (including key cultivation disciplines) of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and 10 key disciplines in Jiangsu Province. In the fourth round of disciplinary evaluation, forestry engineering and forestry received an A+rating, and landscape architecture received an A - rating. The fifth round of disciplinary evaluation achieved excellent results again, forming a new pattern of coordinated and high-quality development of disciplines in the peak plateau. Ten disciplines, including engineering, plant and animal science, agricultural science, materials science, chemistry, environmental ecology, biology and biochemistry, earth science, general social science, and computer science, have entered the top 1% of ESI global institutional rankings.
Adult higher education at Nanjing Forestry University began in the late 1950s, offering single subject correspondence education in 1960. Correspondence education was officially launched in 1962, and in 1988, the university was granted the authority to award undergraduate degrees in adult education. In 1991, the Adult Education College was established by the merger of the former Correspondence Education Department and the Cadre Training Department. In May 2001, it was renamed as the Continuing Education College. In 2024, the school will establish a Lifelong Education Management Office, which will be co located with the Continuing Education College. The Continuing Education College undertakes the management tasks of higher education continuing education, self-study exams for higher education, cadre training, job training, etc. After more than 50 years of development, our school's continuing education has formed a multi standard, multi-level, and multi form educational system. The college currently has about 5000 students enrolled in higher education continuing education, with 14 correspondence stations and 14 majors offered in five provinces including Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Yunnan, and Guangxi. The school operates through correspondence courses (upgrading from vocational to undergraduate). Among them, landscaping and transportation are two key majors in adult higher education in Jiangsu Province.
The college always adheres to the development of the national economy and society, the construction of a learning oriented society and a lifelong education system, and puts the improvement of the quality of continuing education, emphasis on school characteristics and effectiveness as the top priority. Since its establishment, the Institute has cultivated more than 30000 practical and application-oriented talents for the society. It has successively won honorary titles such as the national exemplary organization for staff education, the national exemplary organization for key post training in the forestry industry, the national exemplary organization for adult education in the forestry system, Jiangsu Youxiu College of Continuing Education, and the "most beautiful self-taught examiner" (collective) of Jiangsu Higher Education Self study Examination.
