Introduction to the College of Information Science and Technology & Artificial Intelligence

The predecessors of the College of Information Science and Technology & Artificial Intelligence can be traced back to the Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics Teaching and Research Group of Nanjing Forestry University founded in 1952. The Basic Course Department was established in 1961, the College of Information Science and Technology was established in 1999, and the College of Artificial Intelligence was established in 2023, operating jointly with the College of Information Science and Technology. The college currently has 2640 undergraduate students, 610 graduate students, 119 faculty and staff members, 58 associate professors and above with senior professional titles, 1 national talent selected, 6 selected for the "Blue Project" training in Jiangsu Province, 1 excellent teaching team of the Blue Project in Jiangsu Province, 3 selected for the "333 High level Talent Training Project" in Jiangsu Province, 1 "bottleneck" technical breakthrough talent of the 333 Project in Jiangsu Province, 5 selected for the six major talent peaks in Jiangsu Province, 2 innovative talents in Jiangsu Province, and 2 top 2% scientists in the world from Stanford University.

The college has five departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Intelligent Science and Technology. There are currently five undergraduate majors in Computer Science and Technology, Electronic Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Internet of Things Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. Among them, the Computer Science and Technology major is a Jiangsu Province brand major, a Jiangsu Province 5A major, and a national first-class professional construction point; The Electronic Information Engineering major is a 2.0 major under the Jiangsu Province Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program and a characteristic major in Jiangsu Province; Electrician and Automation is a characteristic major in Jiangsu Province; The Internet of Things Engineering major is a characteristic major in Jiangsu Province and a brand major that integrates industry and education in Jiangsu Province. The college currently has two provincial-level teaching experiment demonstration centers, the "Computer Teaching Experiment Center" and the "Electrical and Electronic Experiment Center".

The college has three first level master's programs in Electronic Science and Technology, Computer Science and Technology, and Control Science and Engineering (jointly established with the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering), as well as one master's degree program in Electronic Information. Among them, the discipline of Electronic Science and Technology has been selected as a key discipline in Jiangsu Province during the 14th Five Year Plan period. The computer science discipline has entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings and has been selected for the 2024 Times and U.S. News World Rankings. The college has been awarded one Jiangsu Province Key Industry College, one Jiangsu Province Key Base for Industry Education Integration, and two university level research institutes for "Big Data and Artificial Intelligence" and "Testing and Control Technology".

The college participated in one first prize of the Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, hosted and selected one national first-class course, four Jiangsu Province first-class courses or online open courses, one National Forestry and Grassland Administration general higher education "13th Five Year Plan" textbook and one Jiangsu Province key textbook, and published more than 10 monographs and textbooks. In the past three years, the college has developed rapidly. Over the years, the faculty of the college has actively carried out social services, focusing on solving key issues related to intelligent applications in monitoring, managing, and preventing ecological disasters in agriculture, forestry, and grassland resources. This has resulted in a number of distinctive original achievements, generating good economic and social benefits. Participated in the development of China's leading forest fire prevention unmanned aerial vehicle intelligent patrol monitoring system and intelligent Chongli comprehensive prediction, warning and scheduling platform, and applied them to forest fire prevention for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, receiving recognition from the Ministry of Science and Technology and local governments.

The college has established good academic exchanges and cooperation relationships with renowned universities and research institutions in countries such as Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. It has also launched joint training programs with internationally renowned universities such as the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom, the University of North Texas in the United States, and Aachen University in Germany to broaden students' international perspectives and enhance the internationalization level of talent cultivation.
