College of Information Science and Technology, Nanjing Forestry University, was established in 1999. In the year of 2008, the departments of  this college were reorganized. The Department of Electric Engineering and Automation, which used to be in the School of Wood Industry, was incorporated into the School of Information Science and Technology. There are five majors for undergraduate students in this school: Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering (Embedded Training), Electronic Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Internet of Things Engineering (Embedded Training), and three academic master degree programs for first-grade disciplines, namely Electronic Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Control Theory and Control Engineering, as well as a professional master’s degree on Electronic Information (including full-time and part-time). In 2011, the major of Computer Science and Technology was determined as a pilot major in Software Engineering. Then in 2012, it was determined as a pilot major of the Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program (Software) in Jiangsu Province. These two majors, namely Software Engineering and Internet of Things Engineering, were included in the Training Program of Software Outsourcing by the Education Department of Jiangsu Province in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

At present, this college consists of four departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Internet of Things and Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, and Software Engineering. It has two provincial-level centers, Computer Teaching and Experiment Center, and Electrical and Electronic Experiment Center, and two research institutes: ‘Big Data and Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘Testing and Control Technology’. There are 89 faculty members in the School, including seven full-time Professors, two Distinguished Professors, three Industry Professors, one Visiting Professor, three part-time Professors, 32 Associate Professors, 30 Ph.D. or Master supervisors. 58% of them hold a doctoral degree, and 52% of them attain senior titles. In recent years, faculty members hosted and participated in 24 projects of the Chinese National Natural Science Foundation, 36 projects of Provincial Foundation and a series of crossing research projects. They received nine Provincial Scientific Awards, and three Outstanding Teaching Awards of Jiangsu Province. Two courses were awarded as the Provincial Excellent Course. More than 600 high quality papers and 10 monographs were published.

The total area of the college laboratory covers more than 6400 square meters, with equipment worth about 26,750,000 Chinese yuan, a collection of more than 25,000 professional books. Our school also boasts two graduate workstations and more than 20 off-campus practice bases. Abundant learning resources and excellent experimental conditions have laid a solid foundation for faculty’s teaching and research, and students' learning. At the same time, it has attached great importance to academic exchange and technological cooperation with prestigious universities around the world, such asJapan, the United States, the Great Britain, and Canada. Faculty members are sent to visit and study at overseas universities to enrich their teaching and research experience. In 2011, the College launches a joint learning program ‘3+1+1’ with the College of Computer Science at the University of Dundee in the Great Britain and the College of Engineering at the University of North Texas (UNT) in America. Excellent students in the 3rd year have a chance of academic exchange for one year. And after that, they can continue their courses and pursue their master’s degree abroad. In 2019, our school started a new program ‘2+2’, which enables students from Nanjing Forestry University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree on Science in Computer Science degree administered by the College of Engineering of North Texas.

The College of Information Science and Technology currently has over 1500 full-time undergraduate students and more than 440 graduate students. Our college puts great emphasis on students' innovation and creativity. They have obtained many achievements in high-level contests, such as the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, the National College Students Challenge Cup Competition, the Programming Contest for College Students in Jiangsu Province. Many graduates work at companies in the Silicon Valley and companies such as Microsoft, Alibaba, Tencent, ZTE, Huawei, Siemens, Ericsson and those engaged in technological research and development. Others also have a promising future, such as working in institutions and colleges, or continuing their studies at high-level universities in China,  like Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Nanjing University, or  going abroad, including the United States, British, Canada, and Japan to further their study.
